| Watercolor Landscape Quilts - Cathy Geier |
At our May 2009 meeting, we were privileged to have Cathy Geier make a presentation on her beautiful Watercolor Landscape Quilts. Cathy shared that her inspiration is derived from nature and fabrics. She uses photographs - good ones that have structure with a specific foreground, background and mid-ground. A variety of color is also very important!
Cathy reviewed the key concepts for designing and creating landscapes:
Establish Depth
Set up Focal Points
Map your landscape on graph paper
Design mountains and trees
She also provided guidance in choosing fabrics. She fascinated each of us with her demonstration on the fold/sew method of construction.
